The opening verses of the Book of Hebrews emphatically declare the deity of Jesus Christ. He is NOT just a great prophet or an exalted angel, as some religions claim. As Paul states here and in his letter to the Colossians (Chapter 1, verses 15-20), Jesus is the EXACT image of the invisible God!!! I like this quote from Charles Spurgeon: “Deity is not to be explained, but to be adored; and the Sonship of Christ is to be accepted as a truth of revelation, to be apprehended by faith, though it cannot be comprehended by the understanding.” Today, let's worship Jesus in spirit and in truth!!!

The following guide is a resource for your personal time of abiding with the Lord and for your Community Group when you meet.  It can also be used for times with family or friends around the table.

Take time to be reminded of our shared vision- We are abiding in Christ that we might experience Gospel Transformation in our homes, neighborhoods, work places and city.

+ Ask… What are you/we thankful to the Lord for? (e.g., how is he working in our community group or the lives of someone we are walking with to discover the gospel?)

+ What is one need in this circle/our Community Group and how can we meet it together?

Take some time for song (guitar, hymn, acapella or read a Psalm) and extended prayer as an individual/community.  A simple path of prayer is to pray through one of the Psalms as a group or use the acronym ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication).

DISCOVER [ Hebrews 1:1-3 ] In Large group

+ WHAT is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that I/we learn? (Use the questions interspersed through the passage to help make additional observations to clarify the main point)

1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

+ Compare and contrast these verses with the first few verses of Genesis 1 and John 1.

+ Just how has God spoken "in many ways" over the course of history? Does He still "speak" today? If yes, how?  And if yes, what is the message?

+ How would you define "these last days" in verse 2?

+ Knowing Christ has been appointed by God to be "the heir of all things", how does that make you feel about your future?  (Read Romans 8:12-17)

+ What does it mean that the verbs used in the first part of verse 3 ("is" and "upholds") are in the present tense?  What does it mean that the verb used in the last part of verse 3 ("sat") is in the past tense?  Why does Jesus now sit at God's right hand?

PROCESS (In Breakouts of 2-3’s, guys/girls)

+ HOW is the Lord calling me to action/obedience? Is there sin to confess, a next step to take, how has it gone since last time?  (Below are a couple of ideas to help prompt responses if needed)

I have been convicted lately of the lack of reverence and awe I have at times for the person of Jesus Christ.  My prayer life centers most times on requests I would like to see answered. My Scripture reading and meditation lacks real devotion.  Jesus died for my eternal salvation!!!  He MAINTAINS the universe, meaning EVERYTHING comes apart if not for Him!!!  The Lamb of God IS worthy to receive ALL worship and praise from EVERYBODY, and one day, He will!!!  Repent of putting ANYTHING ahead of your love and devotion to Him. Ask Him to stir within your soul a love and remembrance of who He is and what He's done for you!!!

+ WHO am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus, what is my next step? (e.g., spend time with them, set-up an intentional time to share your story, begin a discovery study on the teachings of Jesus with them)
