Today we look at one of the most foundational truths of our knowness in Christ-that we have been born again. May the Lord remind us and deepen this truth in our hearts, minds and lives today!

The following guide is a resource for your personal time of abiding with the Lord and for your Community Group when you meet.  It can also be used for times with family or friends around the table.

CONNECT

VISION + STORIES

Take time to be reminded of our shared vision- We are abiding in Christ that we might experience Gospel Transformation in our homes, neighborhoods, work places and city.

+ Ask… What are you/we thankful to the Lord for? (e.g., how is he working in our community group or the lives of someone we are walking with to discover the gospel?)

+ What is one need in this circle/our Community Group and how can we meet it together?

SING + PRAY

Take some time for song (guitar, hymn, acapella or read a Psalm) and extended prayer as an individual/community.  A simple path of prayer is to pray through one of the Psalms as a group or use the acronym ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication).

DISCOVER [ 1 Peter 1:3-7 ] In Large group

+ WHAT is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that I/we learn? (Use the questions interspersed through the passage to help make additional observations to clarify the main point)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

+ In v.3 how does Peter begin this section and what has God caused in us?
+ In v.3 through what are we born again?
+ In v.4 what four ways does Peter describe the inheritance we receive?
+ In v.5 how is this inheritance protected and when do we receive it?
+ In v.6 what can we expect to experience and for what purpose?
+ In v. 7 what does this testing (and being born again/known into a living hope) ultimately result in?

PROCESS (In Breakouts of 2-3’s, guys/girls)

+ HOW is the Lord calling me to action/obedience? Is there sin to confess, a next step to take, how has it gone since last time?  (Below are a couple of ideas to help prompt responses if needed)

+ Do you regularly rejoice in this the truth that you have been born again? How might you build in a rhythm of remembrance this week?
+ Are there areas of your life that you are being tested? How might you embrace this suffering and walk through it as an opportunity to glorify God?

+ WHO am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus, what is my next step? (e.g., spend time with them, set-up an intentional time to share your story, begin a discovery study on the teachings of Jesus with them)
