The Christian life does not make us immune to bouts of comparison, jealousy, and even bitterness when we see others not walking the way, or where we think they should. Yet, that is not the way of those who long to be disciples of Christ. In today’s passage, Peter is commanded to turn his focus where it belongs -- on his own walk with Jesus. -- Amy

The following guide is a resource for you to use in your personal time of solitude with the Lord as well as when you connect with the Community that you facilitate.  It can also be used for times with family or friends around the table.

[ John 21:20-23 ]
20 Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had leaned back on His bosom at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” 21 So Peter seeing him said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!” 23 Therefore this saying went out among the brethren that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?”
_ Look back at verses 13 -19...what questions did the Lord Jesus ask Peter?
_ Why might have Peter asked “what about him?” (v.21)
_ What is the significance of Jesus’ statement of Peter in verse 22?
_ What does verse 23 say about being cautious not to infuse Jesus’ words with meanings that are not made plain?
