It is Friday, March 8, 2019.  The Gospel of John, probably more than any other book of the Bible, points to the Deity of Jesus Christ, especially Chapter 1 and here again plainly in Chapter 5.  In the verses for today, Jesus claims characteristics, attributes and powers for Himself that are found in God and Him alone.  Yes, a time is coming when "every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father"  (Phil 2:9-11) Chris Adomanis

The following guide is a resource for you to use in your personal time of solitude with the Lord as well as when you connect with the Community that you facilitate.  It can also be used for times with family or friends around the table.

CATCH-UP- What was your high and low from last week/yesterday?

SING + PRAY- Take some time for song (guitar, hymn, acapella or read a Psalm) and extended prayer as an individual/community.  A simple path of prayer is to pray through one of the Psalms as a group or use the acronym ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication).

[ John 5:25-29]
25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

+ WHAT is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that I/we learn?

(Use these questions to help make additional observations to clarify the main point)

_ Who do you think Jesus is talking to in this section of Scripture?  (See John 5:18-19)  Why does Jesus use the phrase "truly, truly" here, or any place in the Bible? (three times in John 5 alone)!!!
_ How can an hour be both "coming" and  "now here" in the context of verse 25?
_ What does "life in himself" mean in verse 26?  Why is this significant based on his audience?
_ Son of Man was the term Jesus used of Himself more than any other "title" in Scripture.  Why?  (Read and compare Daniel 7:13 with Daniel 8:17).
_ In context, what does "done good" and "done evil" mean in verse 29?  How does this tie into salvation being a gift of God (Eph 2:8-9)?

+ HOW is the Lord calling me to action/obedience? Is there sin to confess, a next step to take, how has it gone since last time
In his commentary on this passage, R.C. Sproul writes "We receive eternal life from the Son only through trusting in Him, but the authenticity of our trust is proven by our service to God and neighbor".  Therefore, let us repent of the ways and times when our professed faith does not match our actions.  Let us fuel our walk with Jesus by simply responding to His great mercy and love which He has bestowed upon us, His adopted children of promise.

+ WHO am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus, what is my next step?
(e.g., Build trust by spending time with them, set-up an intentional time to share your story, begin a discovery study on the teachings of Jesus with them)
