It is Thursday, October 25th, 2018. Today we are turning towards addressing our freedoms and liberties in Christ. In the next three chapters of 1 Corinthians, Paul is addressing eating meat sacrificed to idols and worshipping at the temples. Corinth was a port city that had many temples dedicated to Greek and Roman gods. A third of the meat sacrificed to the gods was sold at the market for a cheaper price. Some Christians felt freedom to eat the meat because God made the animal it came from. We will see later that this was a stumbling block to some. Let’s look at Paul’s message to the former group.

The following guide is a resource for you to use in your personal time of solitude with the Lord as well as when you connect with the Community that you facilitate.  It can also be used for times with family or friends around the table.

CATCH-UP- What was your high and low from last week/yesterday?

SING + PRAY- Take some time for song (guitar, hymn, acapella or read a Psalm) and extended prayer as an individual/community.  A simple path of prayer is to pray through one of the Psalms as a group or use the acronym ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication).

[ 1 Corinthians 8:1-6 ]
1 Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.
4 Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
