Today is Monday, July 30th.  This week we continue our Summer series at Downtown Hope titled "Protagonist".  In this series each week we will be studying an Old Testament character to discover how their story translates into our story and how their lives ultimately point us to Jesus, as the ultimate protagonist. Included below is a format for you to use in your Daily time of solitude with the Lord and with the Group you are facilitating.

This week we are diving into the life of Joseph.  Genesis covers a number of chapters on Joseph's life.  Most are short but the reading is a bit more extensive this week.  Wee the reading plan and format below.  Feel free to reach out to our team if you have questions

Grace + Peace,

M 07/30- Genesis 37; 39
T 07/31- Genesis 40-42
W 08/01- Genesis 43-44
TH 08/02- Genesis 45-46
F 08/03-Genesis 47; 49.28-50

Choose one of these questions to respond to in your time with the Lord and with your group, spouse or family when you meet.
_ What has been the greatest joy and struggle in the last 24 hours?
_ How is your heart connection with the Lord?
_ Is there anything that has happened that we can celebrate with you?
_ Is there anything you are going through that we can support you in?

One way to pray this summer is to use a simple format that we have been using in our Group's Support Team group.  Select a Psalm or a portion of a Psalm and pray through it.  In this we are learning to pray Scripture together.  Some great Psalms to begin with are Psalm 1, 3, 8, 11, 19, 23, 24, 47, 100, 104, 113, 114.  In your prayer time continue to pray for those you are walking with, for the needs you/group are facing, and for the Spirit to open your heart and eyes as you read the passage, which has been completely inspired by God.

Select one of the daily readings for this week from above, read it together in your group and ask the following 3 simple questions

1. WHAT is this passage saying, what do we learn and how does it point us to Christ? Look for different literary clues to help you discern the main point of the passage or section. Reach out if you have questions.
_ Is there something about the passage that mirrors Jesus' teaching?
_ Is there something about the passage that mirrors Jesus' life?
_ Is there something about the passage that mirrors Jesus' sacrificial death on our behalf?
_ Is there something about the passage that connects to God's redemptive plan in Scripture?

2. HOW am I convicted to confess sin and how does the gospel compel me to respond with a simple step of action/obedience? We encourage you to ask this question In break-outs if your group is large or co-ed.  The Lord forms us in the gospel through simple steps of obedience, fueled by grace.

3. WHO are you walking with to discover or grow in Jesus and what is your next step with them, how can we help? As we are being filled up through the word and Spirit we make ourselves available to God in who he would have us walk with/spend time with who does not yet know Christ.  Continually discussing this with the Lord and within our groups allows us to remember how the Lord is working and steps we are called to take.
