Today is Thursday, April 19th. In today’s passage, we are told to put on the armor of Light and to cast off the works of darkness. The challenge of fighting off the temptations of darkness is constant and difficult. This passage is convicting and hopefully an encouragement to seek out Christ relentlessly. I pray that we will continuously be in the word and prayer, clothing ourselves in the Armour of God. Praise King Jesus. - Evan McGee
(Take time to write down responses to these questions or discuss in your group)
- Do you ever have difficulty waking up early in the morning? What actions do you take to make the process of getting out of bed easier?
- How is the Lord impacting someone you are walking with (to help grow in or discover Jesus)
Take some time to thank and praise God for who He is, to pray for those you are walking with, for the needs you/group are facing, and for the Spirit to open your heart and eyes as you read the passage, which has been completely inspired by God.
DISCOVER [Romans 13:11-14 ]
11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
+ WHAT is this passage saying and what do we learn? (Use these questions below each portion of text to clarify the main point)
_ What does Paul mean in verse 11? How does this speak to our spiritual state as Christians?
_ How is salvation nearer to us now than when we first believed?
_ Paul is calling us away from sinful tendencies - how do the verses in this chapter guide us towards fulfilling that?
_How often do we have to fight off the temptations of sin listed in verse 13?
_ How do we “put on the Lord Jesus Christ”?
+ HOW am I compelled to confess sin and how does the gospel compel me to respond with a simple step of action/obedience? (Here are some thoughts to discuss in break-outs)
_ How does this passage convict us to arise from complacency, and how does it encourage us to passionately pursue Christ? How does it convict us to adamantly shun and flee from sin?
_ In what ways can we guard ourselves against giving provisions to our flesh? Why is that an impossible task without the Holy Spirit?
+ WHO are you walking with to discover or grow in Jesus and what is your next step with them, how can we help?
