It's Thursday, March 29, 2018.  This particular account of the resurrection of the Christ is special because it is written by a person who was actually there, the Apostle John, "the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved".  Imagine yourself as a third disciple, hearing the news from Mary Magdalene, sprinting alongside Peter and John, and arriving at this awesome sight, the empty tomb!!! - Chris Adomanis

Heavenly Father, You are the Creator and Sustainer of all life.  Help us this Easter season to truly grasp the fact  "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you" (Romans 8:11).  Amen

DISCOVER [John 20:1-10]
20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went back to their homes.

+ WHAT is this passage saying and what do we learn?
(Use these questions below each portion of text to clarify the main point)
_Mary Magdalene, a woman with a poor reputation, is listed prominently in the Resurrection Story.  What does this, along with the other details listed here, say to you about the authenticity of this account?
_According to other Biblical accounts, what had Peter, John and the other disciples been doing since the crucifixion of Jesus?  What emotion lead them to venture out to the tomb?
_What did John "believe" in verse 8, considering what verse 9 says?

+ HOW am I compelled to confess sin and how does the gospel compel me to respond with a simple step of action/obedience?  (Here are some thoughts to discuss in break-outs)
_The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of the Christian faith.  No resurrection, then Jesus was just a man, a person who doesn't deserve worship (read 1 Corinthians 15:13-22).  Invite someone to one of the Easter services at DH this Sunday so they can hear the Resurrection Story and believe!!!
