Today is Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Good morning! Spring is around the bend, and with the coming season, brings forth runners, and joggers, and walkers, some of which, when over-relying on their abilities, may be blind to what lies at their feet, causing themselves a fall, by overlooking a stone or rock. Today’s passage will expose how a dependence on works, and blindness to the “stumbling stone” leads us to fall over it. Please join us at our Gatherings, Sundays @ 9:00 and 10:45 am. - Max

(Take time to write down responses to these questions or discuss in your group)
_Would you drive differently if the laws of the road did not apply to you? If yes, how so?
_ How is the Lord impacting someone you are walking with (to help grow in or discover Jesus)?

Take some time to thank and praise God for who He is, to pray for those you are walking with, for the needs you/group are facing, and for the Spirit to open your heart and eyes as you read the passage, which has been completely inspired by God.

DISCOVER  [Romans 9: 30-33]
+ WHAT is this passage saying and what do we learn?
(Use these questions below each portion of text to clarify the main point)

What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 as it is written,

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense;

and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

_How do the Gentiles exemplify the requirements needed for salvation in this passage? How did the Gentiles receive salvation if they were not originally pursuing the Law? v.30
_What was the crux or error Israel made, that caused them to cease being the original recipients of salvation? v.31-32
_Who is the “stumbling stone” spoken of in v.32-33? Please use Isaiah 28:16 and Isaiah 8:14 as reference
_Why is this person referred to a stone of stumbling? V.33, above references
_What is the eternal meaning of the phrase “will not be put to shame” found in v.33? Please use Mark 16:16 as a reference.

+ HOW am I compelled to confess sin and how does the gospel compel me to respond with a simple step of action/obedience?  (Here are some thoughts to discuss in break-outs)
_ Since “The righteous live by faith”, what is one way you are being called by Christ to step outside your comfort zone this week and have faith that God has a purpose through that conviction he has given you?
_ Are you spending time in the Word and in prayer, to hear the Lord speak to you? It is these two actions that lead us to repentance, as well as our daily callings to God’s will.

+ WHO are you walking with to discover or grow in Jesus and what is your next step with them, how can we help?

Pray the Lord would put upon your heart the person(s) in your life that you are to share the good news of the Gospel to, through organic circumstances in relationship. If you know who this person is God is calling you to walk with; How can you take a simple step of obedience, to show the love and passion of Christ to him/her?
