DISCOVER [Romans 5.1-5]
+ WHAT is this passage saying and what do we learn? (Use these questions below each portion of text to clarify the main point)
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
_ vs. 1-2 carry a past, present and future aspect- what are each of these?
_ In vs. 3 what do we find we are to rejoice in?
_ In vs. 4 what does suffering ultimately produce in us?
_ In vs. 5 why are we not put to shame?
+ HOW am I compelled to confess sin and how does the gospel compel me to respond with a simple step of action/obedience? (Here are some thoughts to discuss in break-outs)
_ Is there a way the Lord is calling you to embrace a current area of suffering? (i.e., taking time to rejoice in it, enduring, dwelling on God's love being poured out into your heart?)
+ WHO are you walking with to discover or grow in Jesus and what is your next step with them, how can we help?
_ Who can you encourage with this truth today? What is your next step with them?
