Happy Wednesday!  In today's reading we find a dramatic scene as Jesus and his disciples are "on the way".  We can see Jerusalem in the background, Jesus in the middle ground and his disciples in the foreground, following behind him both amazed and afraid.  It is here, on the way, that Jesus tells his disciples, a third time, he will die.

CONNECT (Take time to write down responses to these questions or discuss in your group)
_ What about Jesus amazes you?  What about Jesus makes you afraid?
_ What is one way the Lord is impacting the life of someone you are walking with (to help grow in or discover Jesus)?

Take some time to thank and praise God for who He is, to pray for those you are walking with, for the needs you/group are facing, and for the Spirit to highlight truth as you read.

DISCOVER  [ Mark 10.32-34 ]  32 And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, 33 saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”

+ WHAT is this passage saying and what do we learn? (Use these questions to help make additional observations to clarify the main point)
_ Where are Jesus and his followers going in vs. 32?
_ What other observations do you make about Jesus' position on the path and what they were experiencing in vs. 32?
_ What does Jesus say is going to happen to him in Jerusalem in vs. 33-34?
_ Why do you think Jesus speaks of his death and resurrection three times in Mark's account?

_ What do we learn about Jesus in this passage?
_ What good news does this teach us about Jesus?

+ HOW am I compelled to confess sin and respond to what I learned today with a simple concrete step of action/obedience?  (In groups discuss this in guy/girl break-outs, below are a couple of ideas to help prompt responses if needed)
_ Confessing that I, like the disciples, am slow to understand the importance of Jesus' death and resurrection (needing to be told three times)
_ Confessing that I forget the intensity of what Jesus went through (condemned, mocked, spit upon, flogged, killed)

_ Responding by praising and thanking God for sending his son to die. (from that thing) or removing that thing from my life.
_ As Jesus was willing to walk into his death as a servant, identity one area where I can die to something this week for another.
_ Allowing Jesus to teach me "on the way" today by reading, meditating or memorizing His word.

+ WHO are you walking with that you might pass along or encourage what you learned, with today? (e.g., your family around the dinner table, a friend, co-worker or neighbor you are walking with to discover the message Jesus)

The purpose of The Daily is to encourage growth in our affection for Jesus.  It is a practical guide for you and as you walk with others (your groups) to grow in or discover Jesus.  A portion of this weeks readings will be taught on this Sunday at Downtown Hope's gathering- look forward to seeing you there as we continue to join Jesus vision for the world!
