(Take time to write down responses to these questions or discuss in your group)
_ Have you ever experienced or witnessed a time where God delivered you or someone else from a situation that would have been damaging?
_ How is the Lord impacting someone you are walking with (to help grow in or discover Jesus)?
Take some time to thank and praise God for who He is, to pray for those you are walking with, for the needs you/group are facing, and for the Spirit to open your heart and eyes as you read the passage, which has been completely inspired by God.
DISCOVER [Acts 14:19-27]
+ WHAT is this passage saying and what do we learn? (Use these questions below each portion of text to clarify the main point)
19 But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. 21 When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.23 And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.
24 Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia. 25 And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia,26 and from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had fulfilled.27 And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.
_ What did the Jews from Antioch and Iconium do to the crowds? What did the crowds then do to Paul? v.19
_ Paul rises from near and certain death, and the next day he is on the road again to preach the Gospel. What does this show of how Paul viewed his life in Christ and the necessity of the Gospel?
_ What did the disciples declare to the church in Antioch? Who did God open the door to, to hear the Gospel? What is it about what the disciples were declaring that was so encouraging to the church in Antioch?
+ HOW am I compelled to confess sin and how does the gospel compel me to respond with a simple step of action/obedience? (Here are some thoughts to discuss in break-outs)
_ Are you spending time in the Word and in prayer, to hear the Lord speak to you? These two actions lead us to repentance, as well as our daily callings to God’s will.
_How might Peter’s response to the Lord (v14) convict us today?
+ WHO are you walking with to discover or grow in Jesus and what is your next step with them, how can we help?
