It was a great evening! Thanks to DH, we had a ton of great winter clothes that we were able to set up and give away to these folks. We had enough that they were also able to take some with them to share with others. They were really excited to be able to pick out some much needed winter clothing/blankets. We were also able to share a sofa and living room chair with a family who really needed them. The guys carried them up to their apartment and got them all set up. They were so grateful.
We helped their folks get set up for dinner (Tom and Kathy from Allelon have raised up people from the Clay Street community who have really owned this Supper and a Story dinner time - they plan the menu, make and serve all the food themselves. We just jumped in and helped), then enjoyed sitting and eating with them, getting to know them, their stories, heartaches, and victories. Our prayer was that we could begin to develop friendships and relationships with them, and we feel like the Lord heard our prayer and has begun a good work. We look forward to continuing to be a part of these dinners, as well as helping with a number of other opportunities where there are needs that we can help with (food and baby cupboards, holiday gifts, mentoring, etc). We were able to connect with them through playing basketball with the teenage guys, helping with crafts with the kids, and lots of great conversation with the adults, that we hope will lead to continuing relationships where we can show God's love through word and deed.
Thanks again to DH, for your generosity in giving so many bags of great, winter clothing to those in need. We look forward to partnering on a regular basis, as needs come up. Stay tuned!
